Emotion-Focused Coping: Seeking Support

It goes without saying that we all need people to lean on, especially when the problem seems beyond our control. One strategy that can help you is identifying different people for different kinds of support.

For example, who can give you emotional support? Who is best for companionship support (i.e. the one who you just want to hang out with)?

And who can give you more informational or cognitive support? Knowing whom to reach out to not only gives a better sense of support but also helps you identify what you need at a certain time.

In addition, we suggest using a platform that you don’t associate with the problem you are coping with. Who knows, perhaps phone calls instead of video calls with your friends can benefit you more!
